FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How does therapy work?

Therapy is a collaborative process. We work together to explore your world, at your pace. I won’t tell you what to do. I will help you work out what is important to you, what your options are, and how you might bring about change if you feel this is needed. I will be there to support you, and stay alongside you whilst you work out your needs and navigate your choices.

How many sessions should I have?

This depends on your needs, and what you hope to achieve. I offer both short-term and open ended therapy, we can explore what might work for you at our introductory meeting. Sessions are 50 minutes long and are usually at the same time every week. I work both in-person and online.

Can I talk about anything?

Pretty much. There are a few things that would require me to take advice from appropriate authorities (certain criminal activities, or risk of harm to yourself or others) but all this would be covered in our contract. I don’t shock easily. Life is complicated, and I welcome this in the therapy room. I hope you will feel able to unpack everything you wish to share. I don’t need to see the best you, but will hold a space for the real, messy, multi-faceted you that deserves to be acknowledged.

Will I feel safe?

The therapeutic relationship is very important, so take time to find a therapist you feel comfortable with. Therapy can sometimes feel difficult or challenging, but an important part of my work is to help you feel safe and grounded during our meetings, and to create a space where you feel heard and valued.

How do I start the process?

I offer a free 20 minute phonecall, so you can find out more about how we might work together. If you wish to take things further, we will schedule an introductory session. If that feels like a good fit, we will continue to meet weekly, at the same time and location each week. You can contact me through my website online form, by email or by calling my mobile: 07979 296 409 (please leave a message if I’m unable to answer, my mobile is passcode protected and only I can access the messages).
